• Where to go

Dartmoor is a wild and rugged expanse of land covering 365 square miles.  The landscape is a wonderful mixture of rocky tors, wooded valleys, moorlands,  brooks and rushing rivers.  This superb scenery is interspersed with historic towns and pretty villages.  Moor ponies, sheep and highland cattle roam freely, whilst skylarks and buzzards call from above.

Dartmoor, and the Sheepstor region in particular, is a walker's paradise, either for a short stroll or a more meaningful hike across the moor to one of the many Tors within reach.   Riding, cycling and fishing are all available, along with golf on the three local courses.  Other activities can be found in Tavistock and Plymouth.   The coast is only a short drive away where you can swim and try a wide range of water sports.

Touring and sightseeing are popular activities and you are spoilt for choice, with numerous National Trust Properties, gardens, interesting towns and villages to visit.

Plymouth is the attractive shopping centre for most of Devon and Cornwall.  The splendid Theatre Royal offers a wide and ever changing range of entertainments.  Plymouth also has facilities for fishing, sailing and diving in addition to most other sports.

Closer at hand is Buckland Abbey, once the home of Sir Francis Drake, and the ancient stannary town of Tavistock.  Here, the narrow winding streets offer an interesting variety of small, specialist shops and the thriving Pannier Market dating from 1105, still takes place every Friday.  In contrast, the new, state-of-the-art Leisure Pool provides water fun and activity for everyone.  Also within  reach is the Cathedral City of Exeter and the beaches of North and South Devon.
